SOUTHERN REGION HUYE - A five-year old boy died on spot after being knocked down by a speeding commuter taxi yesterday in the early morning hours in Tumba Sector. According to eye witnesses, the child only identified as Amizero who was alone at the time of the accident was run over by the approaching taxi as he tried to cross the road.The driver, Gerard Gasarasi, said there was little he could do to avoid the accident. “The child emerged from the blue, it was so sudden, I couldn’t brake,” Gasarasi who was being held at Ngoma Police station said. The number of deaths accruing from road accidents has risen to three in a space of just four days. The police blame these deaths on careless driving. Last Friday July 24, a Toyota Land cruiser registration number RAA 658N belonging to the Rwanda Red Cross knocked down two people riding a motorcycle killing them on the spot.The deceased were identified as; Camille Habyakare and Grelence Ndayishimiye, 47. Police attributed this accident to over speeding.“The driver was over speeding and later lost control of the car hitting the motor cycle in the process. His file has been processed and handed over to court for prosecution,” police said. Ends
