HIDA to revamp public institutions

The Human Resources and Institutional Capacity Development (HIDA) has signed a support agreement with 19 public institutions with the aim of enhancing the public sector capacity building efforts. The institutions to benefit from the agreement include; government ministries, institutions of higher learning, Parastatals and public institutions. The signing of the agreement that was witnessed by the Minister of Public Service and Labour, Anastase Murekezi, Ivo Goemans, the Belgian Ambassador to Rwanda and other senior government officials was held at the ministry’s offices in Kacyiru yesterday. The signing is part of the €5m support from the government of Belgium last year to boost capacity building in public institutions. During the ceremony, €2m was earmarked to support training of public servants at local government level which is currently under way. Another sum of €0.86m was committed to various training projects of institutions to support capacity development projects while €0.39m was channeled to training programmes in the areas of governance in which 58 public servants are pursuing Masters Degree. Geomans said that his government is committed to supporting Rwanda in decentralization programmes. Murekezi reminded the benefiting institutions that they “fully own the implementation responsibility that will lead to the successful implementations of the envisaged activities.” “Rwanda recognizes that the state of economic growth and development depends on building state capacity if they are implemented successfully over time,” he said. The minister predicted that it is only through this that Rwandans will be lifted out of poverty. Present were the Director of HIDA, Charles Karake and Francois Kanimba, the Governor of National Bank of Rwanda. Ends
