The Gen Z Comedy Show, one of Rwanda’s emerging entertainment platforms, had a landmark year in 2024, solidifying its reputation as a bi-weekly showcase for young comedic talent. Kicking off 2025 with its first show on Thursday, January 9, at Camp Kigali (KCEV), the event once again drew laughter enthusiasts in droves. Consistency was key to the show’s success in 2024, with an uninterrupted bi-weekly schedule that fostered a loyal audience and provided a reliable stage for budding comedians. Several comedians who got their start at the Gen Z Comedy Show have since landed career opportunities, solidifying the event as a springboard for emerging talent in Rwanda’s comedy scene. The 2025 opener at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village surpassed expectations, with attendance exceeding venue capacity. The evening featured standout performances by Gen Z comedians such as Joseph, Kepa, Eric Wirutsiro, Rumi, Kadudu, Muhinde, Umushumba, and Pirate. Looking ahead, the production team is determined to position the Gen Z Comedy Show as East Africa’s premier comedy platform. “As long as our audience continues their incredible support, we’ll keep delivering top-notch entertainment,” said Merci. Three years of Gen Z Comedy Show The Gen Z Comedy Show is set to celebrate its third anniversary this March, marking a milestone in its development as a platform for emerging comedic talent in Rwanda. Comedian Angelo Muhinde reflected on his experience in 2024, saying, “It pushed me to explore content beyond my usual routines when fans wanted more variety. This helped me grow as a comedian and opened new opportunities.” Muhinde has since taken on a hosting role at Ishusho TV and organized a Christmas Kids Festival. In 2025, he plans to complete his university studies, produce a solo show, and explore international opportunities. The show has steadily grown its audience since its beginnings at the Art Rwanda-Ubuhanuzi Incubation Center in Rugando. Over the years, it has moved to venues such as Mundi Center and Rwandex, finally settling at Camp Kigali.
