Mystery surrounds defilement case

WESTERN REGION RUBAVU — Controversy continues to dog ongoing investigations by police on a defilement case by a journalist. Herman Ndayisaba a reporter of Rubavu community radio affiliated to the state radio, Radio Rwanda is in Rubavu police custody over allegations of defilement. The accused was arrested three days ago on allegations of defiling a 14 year old maid. Speaking to The New Times, Charles Twagiramungu, the editor in charge of Rubavu community radio said that the incident happened last month. However other sources indicate that the incidence was reported last week. “The victim claims that she was defiled after being doped. But the question remains why it took long for police to swing into action. More so one would also ask why this poor girl spend the whole week before reporting the incident,” Twagiramungu querried. The accused is married with four children. He had served for three years at the radio until his arrest over the defilement case. According to the police spokesman, Ndayisaba was arrested on July 27, 2009 and the incident happened between July 24-25th.The spokesman revealed that scientific examinations are going on. “The accused is detained as investigations are going on. By Monday will hand the suspect over to the prosecution, and all details of the investigations will be known to you,” he added The accused on his part has said that he has been arrested on trumped up charges and claims to be innocent.He further claims that the complainant is being used by his enemies to bring him down. “You know, these things(the case) has been fuelled by mere speculation which have been going on for a whole month now. I am really surprised at how police come to believe what the complainant is saying however I am just waiting for scientific proofs. All I can say is that police will soon find out that I am innocent. Some people are behind this sort of case,” Ndayisaba said. Ends
