Renowned Rwandan rapper K8 Kavuyo has been added to the star-studded lineup for Icyumba Cya Rap, an all-hip hop concert slated for January 10 at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (former Camp Kigali). The concert was initially due to take place at Canal Olympia, Rebero, in December 28, only to be postponed in the last minute due to heavy rains which hit the venue. “I am thrilled to announce that I will be back on stage! Join me for an unforgettable night of Rwandan Hip Hop music alongside all the greats. Let’s make up for lost time together,” K8 Kavuyo said in an Instagram post on Tuesday, January 7. Kavuyo will join rappers of his generation on the line-up including the likes of former Tough Gang crew members Bulldog, Green P, Fireman and P Fla as well as Riderman, Diplomate, Dany Nanone and Jay C. The new generation was not left behind with Zeo Trap, B Threy, Bushali, Ish Kevin and Logan Joe also joining the elite rap acts on the stage. More tickets are available via Ma Africa's website (www.maafrica.rw) at Rwf 5,000 for regulars as well as Rwf 10,000 and Rwf 20,000 for VIP and VVIP seats. He made his debut release in 2006 before dropping maiden album titled ‘Isaha Ya Munani’. Shortly afterwards, he joined TFP, which was a prominent music label at the time in Rwanda. It was at TFP where he recorded his breakout hit called ‘Rwandan Girl’. The success of this song led to numerous collaborations and mega performances with household hip-hop and RnB artists. He confirms a performance at Icyumba cya Rap concert about a week after making what was his first public performance in more than a decade when he joined The Ben on stage during his New Year Groove concert and album launch held at BK Arena on January 1. The duo performed together their 2009 collabo “Inkuba” and “ Ndi Uw’i Kigali” which also features US-based musician Meddy. During the performance, Kavuyo could barely remember some verses of the songs but the fans were still excited to see him on performing live after 15 years.
