Bugesera residents ask MPs for shelter

BUGESERA - Residents of Bugesera District yesterday pleaded to Members of Parliament to assist them get shelter in line with the current housing standards of the country. The plea was made during the monthly community work, Umuganda, when MPs joined residents of Bugesera in the exercise. According to the deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, “residents expressed their concerns most of which revolved around shelter and we are going to devise ways of addressing their concerns.” He added that citizens have for long been complaining that the only time they see MPs is during elections. “We are going back to the people who voted us to parliament, work with them and solve their problems. Every last Saturdayof the month, a team of 20 MPs will be going out for Umuganda,” Ntawukuriryayo said. He added that the first batch of 20 MPs did Umuganda in Bugesera while the selection of the MPs who will be going out for the next Umuganda will be done according to alphabetical order. “We met with a team of soldiers who were constructing houses for orphans and we joined them and worked for five hours, we really did a remarkable job,” said Ntawukuriryayo. Apparently, every MP is supposed to visit his or her constituency twice a month. This process is supposed to continue during every Umuganda until all the 30 districts are covered. Ends
