WB President visit to focus on success of programs

World Bank President Robert Zoellick is expected in the country early next month as part of his African tour where focus will be on assessing performance of programs funded by the bank. During his two-day visit scheduled for August 11-12, Zoellick is expected to meet top government officials including President Paul Kagame and representatives of both the civil society and private sector. According to the Minister of Finance James Musoni, Rwanda has for long had a good partnership with the Bank, partly a reason why Zoellick will be visiting the country. “He is a strong supporter of the social-economic transforming countries like Rwanda and during his visit, he will be assessing Rwanda’s success and planning with civil society, the private sector and the political authorities on how best the bank can collaborate to overcome the challenges,” Musoni said. During his meeting with President Kagame, the duo is expected to discuss how the bank can boost the economies of East African Countries and Rwanda in particular. President Kagame currently chairs the East African Community. World Bank provides direct budget support to Rwanda. Ends
