The national football team, Amavubi, has been invited to compete in the Mapinduzi Cup, a regional club tournament which will take place in Zanzibar from January 3 to 15. The Mapinduzi Cup was established by the Zanzibar Football Federation in 1998, with the aim of celebrating the country's revolution and its independence. ALSO READ: Rwanda qualify for CHAN 2024 finals In 2023, the tournament featured teams from the East African region, including Rwanda's APR FC, which lost in the semi-finals on penalties. This time, the tournament organisers have decided to invite national teams to help Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya prepare for the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) which they will jointly host. Other participating countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Uganda, and Zanzibar. Adolphe 'Camarade' Kalisa, the General Secretary of FERWAFA, confirmed that Rwanda received an invitation to participate in the Mapinduzi Cup, however, he noted that the tournament was not initially part of their schedule. He did not confirm whether they will accept or decline the invitation.
