The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, has called for harmony between Rwandans and foreigners living in Rwanda, mostly students, and urged them to avoid any confrontation. He made the call while responding to a recent incident in Kigali involving Rwandan and South Sudanese youth, which, according to reports, resulted in a physical scuffle. I want to emphasize that violence has no place in our society, and recent comments targeting the South Sudanese community are not in line with our values as Rwandans,” Nduhungirehe noted. He reiterated that Rwanda’s history should remind everyone of the importance of standing for unity and openness, rejecting any form of division or prejudice. “Let us remain calm and trust our security and justice systems to address this incident in accordance with the law,” he added. Earlier, Rwanda National Police had vowed to follow up on the reported incidents, reiterating that there is no discrimination when it comes on following up on those who break the law.
