Rwanda’s screen legend Gilbert Ndahayo is working on his new 45 minute documentary.The documentary tells a story of three Africans immigrants to America. How they integrated into the new society (America), is it a safer heaven for them, and how about the country where they came from? Ndahayo intends to visit their homeland to investigate why they escaped, and to compare the kind of life they lived then to the one they are currently living. In an exclusive interview with The New Times on Tuesday, Ndahayo said he was busy working on his new film, which is tentatively titled “The Last Note”. Ndahayo is a US based Rwandan talented filmmaker. He was once interviewed and contributed his voice to the book titled “Global Archives of Suffering”, a book analyzing questions on the usefulness and legitimacy of documentary testimony to a particular locale: Rwanda, Louisiana, Korea, South Africa, Chiapas, India, Cambodia, Poland, Norway, and Washington, D.C. In 2006, the Verona Award winner wrote a full feature screenplay entitled “Scars Of Silver”. “Scars Of Silver” is a plight of oppressed women and the abuse of the female children in an African village. The stirring screenplay earned him position of the six screenwriters/directors selected over 80 screenplays from Africa and Asia, by the acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Mira Nair’s foundation: Maisha Film Lab. Famous for his documentary “Behind This Convent”, Ndahayo said he keeps the memory of the Genocide alive and heal his own hurt. He has worked with international screenwriters and directors, like Bollywood’s Vinay Shukla (GodMother) and Hollywood’s filmmaker Mira Nair, among others. Ends
