After a rugged run in the first phase, Amavubi need to come to the part and the Croat reckons that there is no better way to prepare than giving the players good match practice. Tucak believes that the team needs to crank up the intensity as they put the building blocks in place for the crunch tie which will be played in Kigali. Following the coach’s remarks, Ferwafa has moved swiftly to secure friendlies with Tanzania and DR. Congo. According to the federation’s CEO Jules Kalisa, friendlies against Tanzania and DR. Congo are in the pipeline. “What we are sure of is that we shall play Tanzania on August 12 although the venue is yet to be confirmed,” he said. “As for DR. Congo, we have tabled two friendlies. The first one is scheduled for August 20 in Kinshasa while the second one will be staged in Kigali on August 28,” the CEO added. Egypt has also lined up a friendly against Guinea. The African champions are keen to build on their previous 3-0 mauling of Rwanda. The result left them three points short of Group C leaders Algeria. Amavubi are expected to regroup on August 13 as they plot to fight their way back into the race to qualify for next year’s Africa Nations Cup (CAN) in Angola. With dreams of a debut World Cup appearance almost shuttered, Amavubi know that their best hope of qualification lies in CAN where the top three from Group C will make the trip to Angola. Rwanda did little to salvage any hopes of qualifying for next years World Cup and Africa Nations Cup after managing a point from a possible nine. After being held to a goalless draw in their opening qualifier against Algeria, Amavubi crumbled to back to back defeats against Zambia (0-1) and Egypt (0-3). Algeria, who had a good run in the first leg top the group with seven points after two wins and a draw. Ends
