In a bid to improve the quality of life for local families, a delegation of 17 members from the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga, marked the festive season by providing nutritional support to 300 families in Huye District, on December 28. The beneficiaries were families in the Huye Sector with children with disabilities, each receiving one carton of porridge flour, containing 12 packages, provided in partnership with Africa Improved Foods, the producer Nootri flours. ALSO READ: Rotarians join hands for tree planting initiative The Vice Mayor of Huye District in charge of social welfare, Annonciatha Kankesha, commended the initiative saying that the nutritional support would help families. Kankesha encouraged the families to prioritize its use for children. “We are grateful to the Rotary Club for compassion they have shown to Huye Sector, and this is not even their first time,” the official said. “It reflects their respect for the local community. Often, these families are limited in the work they can do because they need to care for their children. However, with support like this flour, they gain the ability to focus on other activities that help sustain their households,” she added. That’s why, within your capacity, it’s essential to give back to the community and uplift others,” he said. Following the event at Huye Sector, the delegation proceeded to Kinazi Sector in Huye District, where the charity extended its support to the family of Cecile Mukantabana, who rescued a month-old girl during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Mukantabana was thanked for raising the child to adulthood, embodying the core values of Rotarians, which are compassion, service, and support for others. They provided her with food support and household essentials for the five-bedroom house, which was built by the Rotary Club last year. They also provided an initial Rwf100,000 to purchase small livestock, which will enhance her daily well-being. Mukantabana expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga. “I am incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga for their generous support. The house and the essentials they provided have truly transformed my life. I will forever cherish their kindness, especially Birungi for his personal care and commitment to my well-being,” she said. In September, Rotary-Club of Kigali Virunga distributed over 1,500 mattresses in Huye District, constructed houses for vulnerable citizens, and provided essential family necessities. Rotary Club, with a global membership of over 1.4 million Rotarians, serves as a channel for delivering aid to families in need around the world. The Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga was founded in 1999 and chartered in 2000. Rwanda has 12 Rotary clubs, with 8 based in Kigali.
