The annual dance competition, Urutozi Challenge, is returning to the stage at Lycée de Kigali on Saturday, December 28. The dance contest promises to bring much more difficult challenge among selected dancers after organisers announced raise in prize money for this year’s edition. At least 20 dance crews have registered for the contest this year. They will compete against each other in the preliminary round after which the top six will advance to the semifinals. The semifinals will decide four dance crews which will qualify for the finals. According to organisers, all six semifinalists will walk away with a cash prize of Rwf100,000. The winner of this year’s dance contest will bag Rwf1,300,000 up from last year’s Rwf500,000 prize. The first runners-up will walk away with Rwf800, 000 up from Rwf300,000 awarded last year while the second runners-up will Rwf500, 000, which is more than double of what last year’s third-placed contestant was awarded. Organised by local fashion line Urutozi Gakondo, the dance contest is part of the fashion house’s move to not only support dance among local emerging choreographers but also promote the best of its Made in Rwanda fashion products designed at the fashion house. Entrance fee at the event is only Rwf1,500.
