MAURICE Bikorimana has been selected to represent Rwanda at the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championship in Milan, Italy. The championship, which counts as the highest competition in amateur boxing is scheduled to run from August 29-September 13. Bikorimana, who fights in the light-weight category (60kg), beat off stiff competition from three other pugilists; Jean Claude Gatorano- welter weight (69kg), Pascal Sibomana-light weight (60kg) and David Nsabimana-feather weight (57kg). The selection was done by the technical director in the Amateur Boxing Association (Raba) Gashugi Kananura and the official believes that Bikorimana is the best choice for the championship. “He is skilled, quick and disciplined,” Kananura said of the 20-year-old. Bikorimana will now benefit from a two-week training camp which starts on August 1. The training camp, fully funded by AIBA, the world boxing body is part of his build-up to the championships. AIBA has also offered to cater for his Air line ticket and accommodation during the world championship. Ends
