Kigali Tennis Centre and the local tennis governing body (FRT) are co-hosting a holiday tennis camp designed to detect and develop young talents in the tennis ecosystem. Taking daily at the IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club, the holidays camp serves as an opportunity for development coaches to nurture aspiring tennis players, engage parents, and promote the sport across the country. The federation supports the initiative with equipment and access to facilities as part of its continued commitment to not only strengthening tennis at the grassroots level but also inspiring the next generation of athletes. The juniors’ tennis holiday camp is part of the federation's broader strategic agenda for 2024-2029, focusing on talent detection and development as vital components of growing the sport in Rwanda. By providing tennis courts, training equipment, and coaching expertise, the federation ensures the camp’s success. “This initiative is central to our efforts to promote and develop tennis in Rwanda. By identifying and nurturing talent from the grassroots, we aim to build a robust foundation for the sport’s growth,” said FRT president Théoneste Karenzi. ALSO READ: Rwanda to host ATP Challenger 75 Tour in February 2025 The camp follows a summer program organized by FRT through the Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI), which saw 17 tennis prospects advance to the U12 category. These players have since been enrolled in a follow-up program that monitors their progress while at school. “Our goal is to conduct camps during every school holiday to consistently, follow up on emerging talents and nurture them over time,” Karenzi explained. He added that at the end of each camp, the most talented participants are placed in specialized training programs to further their development. By creating engaging holiday camps, FRT not only provides children with an enriching break from school but also encourages parental involvement and boosts the sport’s visibility countrywide.
