The students and youth of today are the parents, managers, and politicians of the generation to come. They are our leaders in the making. Therefore, they must prepare themselves for that role and responsibility. All this entails leadership qualities. You are a leader as father, mother, manager, and politician. As it is rightly said; Leaders are not like Kings. They are made while Kings are born. For example, the younger king Rukirabasayijja Oyo Kabamba of Toro kingdom is a King by birth. However, to be an effective leader, one has to learn to be one. Bad leadership exists because those who take over the responsibilities of leadership are upstarts. They have never been leaders in their youth lives. Circumstances make them leaders. But they are not always the best. For example Idi Amin Dada was the president of Uganda from (1971-1979) and the late Rwandan president Juvenal Habyalimana is another example of a bad leader. The old Ugandans and Rwandese know how they went through these two people’s regime. Other world dictators include Hitler of Germany and Mussolini of Italy in the 1930s and 40s. In order for east Africa to get good leadership in the generation to come, the students and youth must start learning how to be leaders. And the leaders need to set a good example for them to follow.
