Zero customs duty in 2010 Juma Mwapachu, Secretary General of the East African Community [EAC] revealed that effective 1, January 2010; there will be zero customs on all goods traded across the East African Community member borders. “In January 2010, the fully fledged Customs Union comes into effect with zero customs duty applicable to all goods traded among the EAC Partner States. This is a significant milestone in the road to EAC integration and will greatly impact trade, investments and revenues of the Partner states,” he said during the 2nd East African Community Investment conference in Kenya.
