Rwanda’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), CG Felix Namuhoranye, is in Ethiopia for an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Ethiopia Federal Police. ALSO READ: Ethiopia police chief visits Isange One-Stop Centre On Monday, December 16, CG Namuhoranye and his host, CG Demelash Gebre Michael Weldeyes, signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize cooperation and collaboration in various matters of policing. The cooperation agreement outlines collaboration in areas including training and capacity building, combating terrorism and related crimes, exchanging expertise in international peacekeeping operations, and enhancing capabilities in peace restoration efforts. It also focuses on joint training programmes, sharing knowledge on crime prevention and investigation, exchanging criminal investigation-related information, improving operational efficiency, and closely collaborating within the framework of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) and Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO). Furthermore, the partnership includes joint research on modern policing practices and combating transnational and cybercrime. In his remarks, CG Namuhoranye said that this partnership will further create impact in regional security efforts. “This MoU cements the already existing partnership between our two institutions, and it stresses the need for more efforts to sustain momentum of our collaborations. Our cooperation will have profound importance in supporting the regional security efforts,” Namuhoranye said. “Putting our efforts together will improve our capacity building initiatives, sharing of information and optimizing our joint operational engagements to confront the complex security challenges in our respective countries and the region at large.
