Nce2 c5, and swung into the French defense, advance variation. Playing with white, Gukesh who never left the board for the first two hours played so well and tried everything to squeeze out a win but the Chinese GM brought out his best defensive play. Ding and his challenger are facing each other in a 14-game classical chess match. The player who scores 7.5 points or more wins the match, picking up the better part of the $2.5 million total prize fund. If the score is equal after 14 games, the winner is decided by a tiebreak. Ding will have the white pieces for one last time on Thursday.
