Rwanda’s U-17 national team has kicked off its preparations for next month’s Cecafa Youth Championship in Khartoum and Juba, Sudan. Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that the team managed by former German international and Ferwafa technical director Michael Weiss has been training at Ferwafa’s artificial turf since last week. “The team will travel to Germany on Thursday for a two-week training camp in Frankfurt before returning to Kigali. They will then head to Sudan” Kalisa said. Rwanda should brace herself for tough teams especially after Cecafa’s decision to invite the likes of Nigeria. The two-time U-17 world champions were invited to spice up the event that is expected to attract over ten countries. Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye recently reckoned that it was good to invite top quality teams as one way of raising the standards of the game in the region. “Nigeria has one of the best under-17 talents in the world. At this level, their football put the likes of Nwankwo Kanu, Jay Jay Okocha and Sunday Oliseh on the world map All 11 Cecafa member countries are expected in Sudan and a tune-up to the organisation of the event is on going.Ends
