President Paul Kagame has sent his congratulations to Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama, who claimed victory in the December 7 election making a comeback as the West African country’s top leader. ALSO READ: Ghana’s ex-President Mahama wins election in historic comeback Mahama, who hails from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won with 56.6 per cent of the votes against 41.6 per cent for Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party. Bawumia, who is the current Vice President, conceded defeat on Sunday at a press conference. “Congratulations to my friend President-elect John Mahama on your election victory,” Kagame wrote in a Tuesday post on X. “Rwanda and Ghana share a strong commitment to progress and we look forward to working together to strengthen our bilateral ties and advance the vision of a prosperous Africa.” Mahama, 65, previously led Ghana from 2012 until 2017, when he was replaced by incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo. Mahama had lost the 2020 election.
