Kiyovu Sports’ woes in the Rwanda Premier League continued on Sunday, December 8, when Musanze traveled to Kigali Pele Stadium to beat them 1-0 through a late strike from Felicien Nkurunziza. It was a game which was evenly matched until the 85th minute when Nkurunziza came out with what proved to be the match winner. Burundian coach Joslin Bipfubusa was back on Kiyovu’s touchline after serving a four-game suspension by his employers due to poor performance. His return, however, made little to no impact as the club stumbled to yet another loss at the hands of a Musanze FC side which had been winless in their previous six matches. Bipfubusa gave Patrick Ishimwe a starting berth in the posts in favor of club number one Djihad Nzeyurwanda. Musanze also had former Gorilla FC striker Johnson Adeshola and Sulley Mohammed leading their forward line as they looked to break their winless jinx. The pair created decent chances but Ishimwe was at his best, making good saves to keep the Green Baggies in the game. Kiyovu right back Abdul Karim Nizigiyimana was the brightest spot in his team with his overlapping runs down the right flank while Cherif Bayo also had some good chances in the 30th and 36th minutes but failed to utilize them as the first half ended goalless. The second half saw both teams sitting deep and trying to catch the other on the break. Much of the ball was centered in each other's half as they tried to get each other out of their shells. The Mumena-based side now sits at the bottom of the table with 7 points from 11 games. Elsewhere, at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rutsiro FC and Marines FC settled for a 1-1 in the local derby.
