The Shineboy Fest was going as Davis D and his team planned until South African rapper Nasty C kicked a fan who was trying to pull him from the stage. That’s an infamous situation that nobody wanted to see at the ‘Biryogo’ hit maker’s musical anniversary but the rapper, born David Junior Nsikayesizwe Ngcobo, couldn’t chill when a fan made him uncomfortable on stage. Nasty C, who was the main headliner at Shineboy Fest, was in the midst of his performance and he had already established a soulful connection with revelers around the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village tent until one of the concert goers who were cheering on him stepped closer to stage excitedly pulled him. It, however, made Nasty C uncomfortable only to kick him before stepping back to the stage to continue his performance. Crazy Crazy, Endless, “Yeah 4x,” “Said,” and Pops were among hits that sparked crazy atmosphere inside the venue to cap off his second performance in Kigali in two weeks one to remember. The rapper was part of a long lineup of artistes who joined Davis D in celebrating a decade of musical excellence. The event was a testament to the artist's dedication and the immense love he has garnered from his fans. It has become a routine that concerts in Rwanda start later than scheduled and Shineboy Fest was no exception MC Luckman Nzeyimana introduced the first some minutes past 8pm. Before the first performance, Nzeyimana thanked Davis D's father who trusted him and gave him his first contract at Lemigo TV as a presenter when he was just an intern and so he owes him respect for how far he’s come in his career. From a stellar lineup of performers who were supposed to set the stage, up and coming artiste Lissa and Diez DoLa were offered the platform to make curtain raising performances before Ruti Joël followed to to engage the audience with some of his best culture-inspired songs like “Cunda,” “Oulala,” and “Igikobwa.” Alyn Sano and her dancer later joined the stage with her song “Head” and “Tamu Sana,” paving the way for and Nel Ngabo followed with “Nywe, “Zolie then performed “Molomita featuring Director Gad and Byakoroha.” With captivating performances, each artist added their unique flavour to the evening with their soulful voices and dynamic stage presences, further elevating the atmosphere. The crowd erupted as he performed tracks like Micro and Ifarasi. The stage transformed into a spectacle of light, sound, and dance as Davis D, alongside a bevy of dancers and a vixen delivered electrifying performances of Bad Boy and Bon. In a heartfelt speech, Davis D could only be thankful for what he achieved throughout the past 10 years in music. To him, his musical odyssey is just the beginning. Joining on stage was Platini P with whom they performed their latest track Jeje” before he continued to captivate the audience with solo performances of Atansiyo and Icupa, reminiscing about his time with Dream Boys. The concert was also a celebration of the regional music synergy as witnessed when Burundian star musician Drama T took the stage with his signature style, performing Kosho and Cakula. The father, a renowned gospel singer, led a powerful performance of Amasezerano, uniting the audience in a moment of spiritual connection. The family celebrated Davis D's milestone with a cake-cutting ceremony before the father in his speech, honoured Bernard Bagenzi for his invaluable contribution to Davis D's career. The festivities continued with performances by Bushali and Melissa, who collaborated with Davis D on Bermuda and My Dreams, respectively. After performing Itara, Eva, and Lolo, Davis D waved to his fans but they didn’t want to let him leave the stage. They wanted some more from his lineup but time couldn’t allow. “I’ve got so many hits...I can’t finish the whole lineup,” he said. “Biryogo,” the song that shot Davis D into the spotlight was his last that summed up his powerful two-hour performance. The Shine Boy Fest was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of a decade of musical excellence. Davis D's journey has been marked by hard work, dedication, and unwavering passion for music.
