Prosecution hails citizen’s collaboration

Following recent progress of ordinary people bringing corruption cases to the public attention, the National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) has praised the move, describing it as an important milestone to the crackdown of the vice. A statement issued by the NPPA Spokesperson’s office yesterday preferred only to give to recent examples of such development, including cases in the Kagarama court of Lower Instance and one in Nyagatare Court of High Instance, where lawyers were exposed for attempts to bribe local judges. Judicial cases have been filed against those who were cited in both incidents and they will be brought to book accordingly. “Prosecution strongly condemns judicial servants who still harbour corruption tendencies,” reads the statement that was signed by Augustin Nkusi, the NPPA Spokesperson. “Prosecution warns whoever offers bribes or receives it or is involved in any corruption tendencies, that they should abandon the vice for good.” Since the beginning of this year, government embarked on a serious campaign against corruption in public institutions, which culminated in the arrest of several senior government officials who are now before courts of law in different jurisdictions. President Paul Kagame, in the recent monthly media conference, called for tougher punishments for people graft, saying that the crackdown is just at its initial stage. Ends
