SOUTHERN PROVINCE MUHANGA — Gasenyi Genocide survivors have appealed to authorities to be vigilant on their security after unknown people pelted their houses with stones at 1pm last Monday. “Six out of 12 homes were pelted with stones and the flower gardens destroyed during the attack,” Ramathan Ngoga, the head of survivors’ village said, describing the incident as intimidation. Ngoga, added that this is the fourth time, in two years such an incidence has happened. He added that the previous incident happened in April during the official Genocide commemoration week. Talking to The New Times, survivors said that they alerted police after the attack. “One survivor, Adrian Nsabimana was attacked and injured, by some residents in Gasenyi trading centre, on July 5. The culprits have not been punished and instead they have sent us death threats. These could be the same people,” Françoise Yamuragiye, one of the survivors said. Local leaders say such attacks never used to happen in this place until recently when survivors started living in the newly constructed houses. “Such culprits should be punished and we are asking the police to take up this issue seriously, because we need security for every resident,” said François Xavier Rugelinsinga, the Remera cell leader. Police sources said that an investigation has since been launched and some suspects have been arrested, but details of their names were not revealed. Ends
