EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — A 23-year-old man was last week arrested while spreading genocide ideology during celebrations to mark 15 years of liberation. Jean Marie Vianney Ntibisigwa a resident of Mimuli Sector, was arrested by police while moving from place to place spreading genocide ideology among residents who had gathered for Liberation Day ceremonies. A source at Nyagatare Police Post confirmed on Monday that the suspect is being held at Gatunda Police post as investigations into his case proceed. “We caught him spreading genocide ideology and propaganda, he also threatened to assassinate a singer who was singing liberation songs,” police said. The suspect allegedly said that Janet Uwera, a student of Nyagatare Secondary School and an artiste who sung liberation songs at the function deserves nothing other than death. However, in a separate interview with this reporter, Ntibisigwa denied being arrested for genocide ideology. “I was saying that that singer is performing well when police pounced on me. I didn’t say anything else,” he said. His arrest happened few moments before the Mayor, Robert Kashemeza warned residents against genocide ideology which is said to be prevalent in the area. Ends
