Liberation Debate

NORTHERN PROVINCE Mindset change in Rwanda is a key factor to unlocking the potential for a prosperous and dignified society, the State Minister for Natural Resources, Vincent Karega, has said. Karega was on Monday speaking during a debate, on the implications and true meaning of liberation to the Rwandans, ahead of the I5th commemoration of Liberation Day slated for July 4. Speaking strongly, Karega cited fear, complexes, negative thoughts, divisionism, racism and xenophia as some of the factors holding people back. “The colonial era and the immediate post-colonial regime engaged the country into ethnic divisionism and hatred. It is obvious that such leadership could not develop a clear path for development,’’ Karega said. The debate on the implications of Liberation, held at Ruhengeri Higher Institute of Education-INES also attracted Maj. Gen Ceaser Kayizari, Prof. James Vuningoma, and other educationists. On liberation, Prof. Vuningoma said that Rwandans need to liberate themselves from stereotypes and have a vision. “Once this self liberation of the individual Rwandans is achieved, it will lead to full liberation… which is the base line to true development,’’ he said. Speakers pointed out that the country has over the past 15 years adopted new forms of development and taken positive strides to utilise untapped opportunities and the good investment climate. Ends
