FAEO celebrates landmark achievement in Engineering Capacity Development: Africa (FAEO) Joins forces with Asia-Pacific (FEIAP) and the Americas (UPADI) in "A3P" Accord

Kigali, Rwanda — The Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO) is proud to announce the historic expansion of the Africa and Asia Pacific (AAP) Accord into the newly established A3P Accord, now incorporating the Americas. This groundbreaking collaboration, formalized on November 8, 2024, at the International Engineers Congress in Taizhou, China, represents the largest Global South partnership in engineering education, training, and practice aimed at driving sustainable development through members within their jurisdictions and the Institution of Engineers Rwanda (IER) is among them. This transformative accord was signed under the auspices of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) and marks a significant milestone in fostering global standards for engineering education and professional excellence. It provides a robust framework for guidelines tailored to engineers, technologists, and technicians across the Global South, benchmarking them against the internationally recognized Washington, Sydney, and Dublin Accords. A Milestone for African Engineering For Africa, the A3P Accord is a game-changer. It offers a clear roadmap to accelerate accreditation processes, promote mutual recognition of engineering qualifications, and enable the mobility of engineering professionals across economies. These pathways are pivotal for enhancing the competitiveness of African engineering practitioners and aligning their contributions with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). In his remarks at the signing, Eng. Kazawadi Papias Dedeki, President of FAEO, emphasized: The A3P Accord is not just an agreement—it is an opportunity for African engineering institutions to elevate their standards, align with global best practices, and unlock the full potential of our engineering sector. This milestone strengthens our ability to deliver innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive solutions for Africa’s development. A Call to Action for African Engineering Institutions FAEO urges all African engineering institutions to leverage the A3P Accord as a foundation to: 1. Enhance Accreditation Systems: Expedite alignment with international benchmarks and gain recognition under the Washington, Sydney, and Dublin Accords. 2. Promote Professional Mobility: Facilitate cross-border mobility of engineers, supporting AfCFTA’s vision of a unified African market. 3. Build Global Competitiveness: Equip engineers with skills and credentials that resonate with international expectations while addressing local challenges.
