State prosecution wants Nyarugenge court of Higher Instance to hand two and a half years imprisonement to city tycoon Assinapol Rwigara, it has emerged. The prosecutor made the request when Rwigara’s hearing started in its substance on Thursday. Rwigara is charged with two offences of second-degree murder and obstructing justice, following the collapse of his building which killed three persons and wounded dozens of building workers, in July this year. Rwigara is charged along side Eugene Ruberakurora who was site engineer and Jean Luc Mutagomwa who is Nyarugenge district works engineer. Their defence counsel comprising of Claver Zitoni, Christopher Niyomugabo and Pasteur Munyandamutsa told court that, their clients never committed such offence, and requested court to be transparent in this case for proper justice. Prosecution told court that they have sufficient evidence to prove that Rwigara committed charges of murder. In August, Nyarugenge court ordered a provisional release of the Rwandan tycoon and the two accused after spending weeks in detention. Court will rule on November 9. Ends
