BK Foundation, the philanthropic arm of BK Group, in partnership with the University of Rwanda (UR), hosted Career Summit 2024 at UR’s Huye Campus on November 8. This impactful event provided students the chance to meet industry experts, explore career paths, and gain insights that will shape their professional journeys. The summit marked the official launch of the Career Professionals Hub, a transformative initiative designed to bridge the gap between education and employment. Executive Secretary Ingrid Karangwayire introduced the Hub, underscoring its mission to equip students with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market. She explained that the Hub, developed in collaboration with UR, will not only empower graduates with job-ready skills aligned to market demands but also foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students. “By creating this Hub and enhancing career development facilities, we are building an environment that supports students from their second year onward, providing them with the necessary tools to prepare for meaningful careers,” said Karangwayire. The event featured insightful sessions led by industry leaders. Noella Mupole, Head of Data Management at BK Group, delivered a compelling presentation on “AI in the Future of Work,” discussing the transformative impact of artificial intelligence across industries. She emphasized the importance of data literacy and digital skills for future career success, offering students practical advice on positioning themselves in an AI-driven world. Adding depth to the summit, Mami F. Said, Head of Human Resources, provided valuable insights on career readiness, focusing on adaptability and communication as essential skills in today’s evolving work environment. Her message underscored the importance of soft skills in standing out in the competitive job market. The event also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BK Foundation and UR, solidifying their commitment to the Career Professionals Hub initiative. This project will offer practical, job-specific training starting from students’ second year, ensuring they are well-prepared for employment or entrepreneurial ventures upon graduation. Student attendees expressed enthusiasm for the new opportunities provided by the Career Professionals Hub. Clarisse Uwimana, a second-year business administration student, shared, “With the new Career Professionals Hub, I feel confident that we will graduate with not just knowledge, but practical skills that make us employable.” Final-year governance student Jean-Paul Habimana echoed this sentiment, saying, “It is encouraging to know that our university is taking steps to connect us directly with industry leaders. The Hub will be a game-changer, preparing us for real-world challenges and opening doors we hadn’t imagined.” The summit allowed students to engage directly with potential employers, explore exhibitions, and participate in hands-on sessions that introduced career opportunities in fields like technology, finance, and entrepreneurship.
