APR thrash UPDF to win Military Games

EAC Military GamesYesterdayFootballAPR 4-1 UPDF Rwanda’s military team, APR Fc thrashed their Ugandan counterparts, UPDF 4-1 to win the East Africa Military Games, which climaxed yesterday at Amahoro stadium. Fuadi Ndayisenga struck a 5th minute well taken free-kick which left the Ugandan goalie puzzled. Haruna Niyonzima added a quick brace on 21st and 32nd minutes before Labama Bokota ended the rout with a wonder striker on 36th minute. UPDF got a consolation from Cagu Caguma on 49th minute having missed a 45th penalty as Jean Ndoli saved Juma Kasonge effort. APR finished the two-week long tournament without losing any game to any regional side. They thrashed Kenya 3-2, beat Burundi 3-0, and defeated Tanzania 2-1 before winding up on the Ugandans 4-1 to accumulate 12 points. In cross country, Kenya emerged the overall winner with 25 points; Uganda came second with 91 points while Rwanda was third with 99 points. In handball, Rwanda failed to finish in medal awarding positions as Kenya stole the show to score 12 overall points, two points ahead of Kenya and Uganda was third with 8 points respectively. In boxing, Uganda emerged the overall winner after winning six gold, four silver and one bronze while Kenya was second with four gold, four silver and three bronze. Tanzania was fourth with one gold, three silver and two bronze respectively. Rwanda was fourth in boxing after securing eight bronze medals courtesy of Matunzi Hasiza, Eric Baributsa, Jean Marie Vianney Nsengiyumva, Michel Gashumba Niyitegeka Sibomana, Theoneste Gakunzi, Maurice Bikorimana and Vincent Nsengiyumva. In netball, Tanzania won the event with six points; Uganda finished second with four points while Kenya came third with two points. The closing ceremony was graced by the Prime Minister Bernard Makuza, Minister of Defence Marcel Gatsinzi, Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. James Kabarebe, Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces Gen Aronda Nyakayirima, Kenya’s Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Jeremiah Kianga, Tanzania’s Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Davis Adolph Mwamunyange and Burundi’s Chief of Defense Forces Maj. Gen. Godfrey Niyombare. Ends
