The Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA) has confirmed the passing of Anne Mbonimpa, who was in charge of promoting women’s football at the federation. The reason behind her death remains unknown. Reports indicate that Mbonimpa had shown no signs of health issues recently, until Thursday, November 7, after work when she mentioned feeling unwell. Her condition worsened, and on Friday, November 9, as she was taken to the hospital, where she later passed away. “We comfort her family, friends and all those who have known her,” Ferwafa said in a statement on Saturday. Mbonimpa coordinated the recent CHAN 2024 qualifier match in which Djibouti defeated Rwanda 1-0. Before joining FERWAFA, she previously coached APR Women’s Football Club and guided them to the first division. Mbonimpa also featured for clubs like Bugesera WFC, Ruhango WFC, and GS Remera Rukoma as a player.
