Rwanda women’s cricket team captain Marie Diane Bimenyimana has admitted her team has room for improvement in the batting department despite winning the Rwanda-Kenya Women’s T20i Bilateral Series 3-2 that concluded at Gahanga Cricket Stadium, Kigali, on Saturday, November 2. Rwanda women were leading the series 2-1 in their previous three matches prior to Saturday’s final two series matches from which they needed on win to claim the series. The hosts had a win in their hands during the fourth match played in the morning but they threw it away all of a sudden as Maurice Ouma’s charges won it by 4 runs. Bimenyimana and her teammates had all been bowled out in the 19th over, failing to chase 71 runs posted by the Kenyans in the first inning. “We are not doing well in batting as you may have seen it during these series. The games we lost can solely be attributed to poor batting. I think these series are here to show what to improve and we really have a room for improvement in batting,” Bimenyimana said. The series were tied 2-2 before the pair locked horns in the fifth and last match in the afternoon. Rwanda head coach Leonard Nhamburo also admitted that poor batting cost his team but, after a team talk in the break, he fixed the mistakes and the team went on to win the last match by 5 wickets. If you look at these World cup qualifiers, we pulled out because we were not good at batting and we need to work on it. It also gets you exposed when you play games like these. We gave away the games we lost on one or two areas, especially because majors batters did not do their job, Nhamburo said. “You may play local league but you need to get tested against nations so that you know how you can go about your batting. So games like these are much need so that we can see where we stand and what to improve,” he added.
