Our Past Initiative delivered essential school supplies to 1,000 vulnerable students at Groupe Scolaire Nkanga and five other schools in Rweru Sector, in Bugesera District, on October 30. The organization donated 6,000 exercise books and 1,000 pens to pupils selected based on their economic need. Christian Intwari, the founder of Our Past Initiative, highlighted the importance of this contribution as an investment in Rwanda's future. He said: “This initiative is significant not only to us as Our Past Initiative but for Rwanda as a whole. By equipping these children with what they need to succeed, we’re investing in the future of our country. By supporting these kids, we’re supporting future doctors, teachers, and leaders who will shape Rwanda.” ALSO READ: Our Past’ founder on the role of youth in nation-building The pupils who were aided often lack access to essential school supplies due to financial hardships. Albert Niyigena, Bugesera District's officer in charge of nursery, primary education, and adult literacy, noted: “Providing these supplies at the start of the school year is invaluable. This ensures learners can focus on their studies without disruption, especially in a region like Bugesera where many families face economic challenges, and due to the high migration of families moving in to look for job opportunities.” ALSO READ: How Our Past unfolded Christine Nyiransanzamahoro, a teacher at École Primaire Sharita, appreciated the initiative, recognizing its impact on student performance. “Many parents in this community struggle to afford basic scholastic material like books, uniforms, and schoolbags,” she explained. “Without these essentials, some children miss classes, thereby affecting their learning. By providing these materials, we’re setting students up to succeed.” Nyiransanzamahoro encouraged parents and learners to make full use of the supplies provided to achieve academic success. The donation was given to kids in schools including Groupe Scolaire Nkanga, École Primaire Kivusha, École Primaire Ntemba, and Groupe Scolaire Rwiminazi.
