Rwanda to honour foreigners’ liberation contribution

A cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame, yesterday, at Urugwiro Village, approved the decision to honour foreigners who contributed to the liberation of Rwanda or campaigned against the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Those to be awarded have been put into two categories and will be decorated with medals during the forthcoming liberation day celebrations on 4th July. The medals to be awarded to the distinguished men and women include; the National Liberation Medal and The Campaign against Genocide Medal. The same Cabinet meeting reached a resolution that British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)’s Kinyarwanda programming should be restated after a two months suspension. Government had in April this year banned the local programmes for its repeated disregard of Rwanda’s unity and reconciliation efforts. “The Minister of Information informed the meeting that talks with management of BBC went well with and the meeting agreed that BBC resumes its Kinyarwanda programmes with conditions of revising its editorial line,” reads the minutes of the meeting in part. The meeting also endorsed promotions and transfers of several senior police officers.
