The fashion world is abuzz with anticipation as designers from different parts of the world travel to Kigali for the second edition of The Stage Fashion Showcase slated for Friday, November 1 at Mundi Center. Organized by renowned supermodel Sandrine Mucyo, also known as Ssanduina, the showcase promises to be a vibrant display of both Rwandan and international fashion talent. ALSO READ: The Stage fashion showcase 2024 will be even better, says organiser With a rich lineup of designers and models from across Africa and beyond, Ssanduina told The New Times that this year’s edition seeks to elevate Rwanda's growing fashion industry to new heights. Designers previewing their collections at the colorful evening of fashion include Lisa’s Crochet Designz with her Glory Winter collection, Promesse House, and Era Crown, known for his 1950s-to-90s-inspired pieces. Other notable names on the lineup include Safa Fashion House and Matheo Maurice, a household name in Rwandan fashion industry. “They are going to exhibit their latest work, creating a diverse blend of styles that reflect both local craftsmanship and international flair,” Ssanduina said. International designers from Uganda, Nigeria, and Canada are also expected to join the stage, promising to add a multicultural twist to the evening’s showcase. Model selection was no less rigorous either. Over 400 hopefuls registered for the casting, but only 60 made it through for consideration in the final roster and the jury went on to pick 25 models--13 men and nine women--to hit the runway at the event. According to Ssanduina, the selected models are currently doing daily rehearsals to give fashion enthusiasts a memorable and glamorous runway experience. “These models have undergone intensive training and boot camps since June, with guidance on professionalism, life skills, and discipline, preparing them to represent Rwanda on an international stage.” Fashion with impact The event will incorporate a strong message aimed at youth under a theme “no to drugs”. Ssanduina said that her vision of using fashion as a medium to inspire young people to be leaders of tomorrow, urging them to avoid substance abuse as it “ruins their potential.” The main event promises a dynamic evening of runway shows, food, fashion exhibition on top of live performances of local artistes including Ish Kevin, Boukuru, Chris Easy, Davis D. Tickets are on sale at Rwf 50,000 for Gold tickets which will cover food and drink, and Rwf100,000 for a Platinum ticket with which the holder will be offered additional perks and a surprise gift. “Attendees are encouraged to arrive in their best attire, with awards to be presented to those showcasing the most stylish looks and the best designer,” she said.
