A total of 32 Rwandan tennis players are taking part in the second edition of the national ranking tennis championship which kicked of Tuesday, October 29, at IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club. Launched in September, the competition serves as a consistent platform for local players to compete and raise their level of performance and at the end of the competition, players are ranked on the ranking system as per the points collected in both singles and doubles categories. Current number one Claude Ishimwe will be looking to maintain his top seed status, having won the September edition in both singles and doubles. He won the singles competition after defeating Joshua Muhire 6-3, 6-2 in the final while, in men’s doubles, he and Etienne Niyigene emerged victorious after edging Muhire and Yvan Ngarambe 6-3, 6-2 in the final. Prior to the second edition, Ishimwe currently tops the rankings with 225 combined points from both singles and doubles. Joshua Muhire follows in second place with 160 points with Etienne Niyigena emerging third with 115 points while David Rwamucyo and Fabrice Tuyishime complete the top five with 97.5 and 62.5 points respectively. The first round action is underway at IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club. The competition will run through Saturday, November 2.
