Police VC were off to a bright start to the 2024/25 national volleyball season, overcoming champions APR VC in three straight sets 25-21,25-17,25-22 in an exciting phase 2 clash held at Petit Stade Gymnasium on Friday, October 25. Fred Musoni’s men displayed remarkable resilience, coming from behind to not only secure a sweet win over the army side but fire a warning to rival teams about their title ambitions. Police started the match strongly, winning the first two sets thanks to tactical dominance. Their quick movement and ball distribution around the court proved too difficult for APR to cope and, courtesy of Bettin Matheus excellent attacks, Police took the first set 25-21. It was a nail-biting second set with both teams contesting for every point before Police capitalized on APR’s mistakes later on to win the second 25-17 and they kept the momentum to win the third 25-22, hence registering a stunning win against the champions. On the women’s side, Police also stunned APR in a five-set thriller (25-18,22-25,30-28,20-25,15-11). Club coach Christian Hatumimana’s team dominated the game from the onset, with his squad leading the charge with powerful spikes and strategic plays. However, APR never gave up, coming from behind twice to tie the game to a 2-all set and force it into a tiebreak. Police, however, remained in the game and took the tiebreak 15-11 to secure another win of the league campaign against the reigning champions. Action continues on Saturday where, in men’s category, Gisagara VC take on EAUR while Kepler go head to head with Kigali Volleyball Club(KVC). In an earlier fixture, REG will play RP Huye College. All games take place at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium.
