CSR employees donate to Genocide survivors

SOUTHERN PROVINCE NYAMAGABE — Staff of the Rwanda Social Security Fund (CSR) last Friday donated food items and construction material worth Rwf 6.3 Million to Genocide survivors in Gasaka Sector, Nyamagabe District. The materials would go towards constructing 14 houses for the survivors. “This donation is a very welcome gesture from the CSR,”said Jonathan Gahima, who spoke on behalf of the survivors. “We were not sure of our safety residing in these old dilapidated houses fearing they could collapse.” Richard Gasana, the Executive Secretary of Gasaka, thanked CSR staff for the donation, saying sheltering survivors is one of their biggest challenges as a local authority. “It is a big challenge to both the sector and the district due to financial constraints,” Said Gasana, adding that the sector would complete the 14 houses within the next two months using the donated materials. Earlier, the 70 CSR workers visited Murambi Genocide Memorial site to pay their respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Led by Innocent Rurangwa, the CSR Human Resources Manager, the group laid wreaths on the grave of the victims and donated Rwf 500,000 towards the maintenance of the site. Rurangwa, said their visit to the site and other forms of donations was part of CSR’s efforts to contribute towards giving back to and hence the reconstruction of the Rwandan society. “During commemoration period it is important to visit memorial sites to remember, but it is better to support survivors who witnessed bloody massacres and lost their relatives,” Rurangwa said.
