Pockets Rwf 265,000 Chairman’s Cup G. Mande 147J.B Hakizimana 148D. Anguyo 148 JEAN Baptist Hakizimana believes his hard work is finally beginning to pay off after Saturday’s second spot finish in Entebbe, Uganda. The 20-year-old professional golfer finished a stroke behind eventual winner Godfrey Mande after carding 148 over two rounds in the Chairman’s Cup. Hakizimana, who is sponsored by MTN Rwanda, played three over par on day one before returning a similar score on the final day. Hakizimana looked on course for a fine score on the final day after an eagle on hole 7 and birdies on holes 1, 11 and 15. However, a triple bogey on the 17th hole crashed his party and took Uganda’s Mande on top. Mande pocketed Shs 1.08m (Rwf 360,000) while Hakizimana walked away with Shs 800,000 (Rwf 265,000). Despite a second spot finish, Hakizimana felt dejected. “I throw away the game at the second last hole. I think I experimented a lot and paid for it,” he conceded. It was however a bad outing for Rwanda’s other professional Emmanuel Ruterana who amassed 155. Eleven professionals were in contention. Ends
