As part of support to the One Dollar Campaign, Tanzania’s corporate fraternity has promised to contribute to the initiative, whose goal is to assist vulnerable genocide survivors. According to Rwanda’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Zeno Mutimura, preparations are in high gear to have an occasion where the business community will make their donations. Mutimura said that as a sign of generosity to the campaign, a strong member of the Tanzanian business community and friend of Rwanda, Reginald Mengi had volunteered to be among the organizers of the event. Mengi is renowned regional media mogul and chairperson of the East African Business Council (EABC). “The response so far is positive and we shall have the occasion take place on the 28th of this month (June) at MovenPick Hotel. Our target on that day is to raise $50,000,” Mutimura told The New Times at his office in Dar es Salaam yesterday. The envoy hastened to add that already one corporate company in Dar es Salaam has pledged $15,000 to the campaign. He did not mention the name of the company. The One Dollar Campaign idea was mooted during the diaspora conference last December with an aim of mobilizing Rwandan diaspora to contribute Rwf1.5 billion for a hostel project that will shelter young genocide survivors in schools and universities. The Ambassador added that the occasion will also be attended by two children who are beneficiaries of the campaign, and that Nakaya Sumare, a Tanzanian artist who is popularizing the idea in different places of Tanzania will perform at the event. Accounts for donations have already been opened in different parts of the world which include; Tanzania, Uganda, Belgium, Japan, Ethiopia, Sweden, Canada, India and Kenya. Ends
