Kayitera savors Lara’s visit

ANDRE Kayitera, arguably Rwanda’s top cricketer can’t wait to have a one on one with Brian Lara. The West Indian legendary batsman is expected to fly in tomorrow morning for a one-day tour and Kayitera, one of only two batsmen to score a century in Rwandan cricket recently said that having a word with Lara would be a dream come true. “A few months ago, if some one told me that I would get to physically see Lara let alone have a word with him, I would laugh him off. But now, it’s about to happen and I’m looking forward to it,” the national cricket team all-rounder said. “Given the chance, I have a lot of questions to ask him but I’m afraid I may be lost of words when I see him,” the 20-year-old admitted. “Personally, I think he is truly one of the greatest cricketers of all time. I have watched several clips of his game and honestly, you can’t compare him to many,” he said of the retired cricket great. Lara is expected to jet in at 8.30am. During his brief stay, the former West Indies captain will grace a Twenty20 game between Rwanda and a Ugandan select side and also hold a courtesy call with President Paul Kagame. Even after retiring in 2007, Lara is still the world record-holder in first class cricket (501 not out) and Test cricket (400 not out). His visit to Rwanda will be a break away from his eight day ambassadorial tour to Uganda. Kayitera broke Edward Kataaha’s record (117*) when he smashed 124 runs during a Sulfo League game between Young Tigers and Kigali Cricket Club (KCC). Ends
