Respect and honor but don’t fear

Editor, There is a situation I have been observing to my sheer dismay in Rwanda; people at times have forgotten that the goal of achieving progress and prosperity is having a balanced and mutual engagement between all levels of society. Leaders, being the torch bearers of our developmental activities, should be engaged in idea sharing sessions as opposed to intimidating and treating with contempt their underlings. But it so happens that people, especially those in the public service, have adopted a dangerous approach of handling issues in fright; this fear has been manifested in taking whatever their bosses has said as the gospel truth even when it is plainly wrong. It is really pathetic and potentially dangerous not to ask one’s conscience before undertaking a decision or an action as a human being, so they have ended up religiously following everything yet sometimes our bosses require a little challenge and questioning because they are also human beings who are susceptible to mistakes and oversights.
