HUYE — Residents of Cyizi trading centre in Maraba Sector last Friday woke up in shock after husband and wife were found dead in two separate incidents. Anastasie Kangabe’s body was found lying in a pool of blood in her house on Friday morning after being stabbed to death by unknown assailants last Thursday night. The deceased was formerly working as a booking clerk at Volcano Express transport agency. In a related incident her husband as Bonaventure Ukurikiyeyezu, A.K.A Rubyogo, a shopkeeper and resident of the same centre, committed suicide and his body was found hanging on a rope in the rafters of a house still under construction. Cyizi residents who talked to The New Times suspect Ukurikiyeyezu to have murdered Kangabe before committing suicide. The residents allege that the two deceased had developed misunderstandings. Sources further alleged that this arose after Ukurikiyeyezu separated from Anastasie. “In the past, murder cases were associated with robbery but in this case, she [Kangabe] did not have a lot of money to attract other motives. So, I suspect Ukurikiyeyezu could have murdered Kangabe before committing suicide,” said Alexis Gatabazi, a Cyizi resident who claims to have known both the deceased. Mukagasana, a sister of the late Ukurikiyeyezu however, dismissed the allegations, saying the two had settled their differences. “The two had mended their relationship, and as such there was no sharp differences between them which could lead to murder. Besides, she [Kangabe] was his wife. I can’t imagine how he [Ukurikiyeyezu] could kill someone he had a child with!” Mukagasana commented. Ange Mazimpaka, the Maraba Executive Secretary asked residents to remain calm, saying security organs would ensure their security while trying to get to the bottom of the matter. Police in Huye District said investigations are underway to identify Kangabe’s killers and their motives. Ends
