The ministry of Health has earmarked radio as one of the mediums through which to empower public health workers with skills of their professional. The training is set to be conducted through broadcasts on Radio Rwanda on Monday and Wednesday through a talk show called Ishuti Y’ubuzima literally meaning the a friend of health. The programme was launched recently by the ministry in conjunction with CHF/CHAMP, population services international and John Hopkins Bloomberg School of public health centre for communication. “This programme’s purpose is to increase the councilors’ knowledge by supplementing on the training they have been undergoing,” said Health Minister Dr Richard Sezibera at the launch of the programme. According to Catherine Mugeni, an official in the ministry, the counselors to benefit are volunteers with no expertise in health, who regularly undergo training on health practices, to enable them help their respective communities.
