RWAMAGANA — 28 cells in Rwamagana District were on wednesday awarded various prizes worth Rwf.1.5m for their efforts in implementing performance contracts. The various prizes that included computers, office furniture, mobile phones and printers were handed over by the district authorities. The prize giving was organized for the purposes of encouraging hard work and innovation. Gatare cell which emerged first received prizes worth Rwf.800,000, while cell leaders, who were classified in three categories, also received cash bonanzas. Leaders in the first category walked away with Rwf.30,000, while those in second category received Rwf.20,000.Those in the third category were awarded Rwf.10,000. “No prize suits the amount of work cell leaders do. They tirelessly carry out several activities which are not paid for, but this is just a token of appreciation to them,” the Mayor Velens Ntezirembo said. The day dubbed ‘Innovation’ day is held after every four months. In this prize giving event competitions commence from sector levels, where each sector chooses two cells to represent the sectors. Different cells present their unique innovations from which the winners are chosen. “Due to this kind of event, we have witnessed a lot of improvements within our cells. Winner cells present their unique undertakings which promote good practices realized in several cells,” Ntezirembo said. “Cells adopt new innovations from each other, at the end of the day they show improvements in all sectors. It inspires great innovation to develop within our district,” Ntezirembo explained further. Rwamagana District has 14 sectors and 82 cells. At the occasion, cell leaders vowed to work hard in order to improve the wellbeing of their citizens. Ends
