Despite being three points behind league leaders Rayon Sports, Musanze FC coach Frank Ouna Onyango is convinced that many people do not view his team as realistic title contenders. The Northern Province club is behind Rayon Sports who have 15 points after five games. But the Musanze coach believes that his side is very capable of fighting for the title. Onyango insists that although many people do not give his team a chance of winning the league, he will not let that affect him or the squad. “Many people have actually told me we can never win the league,” the Kenyan coach said. Musanze FC were impressive last season when they finished sixth, with 40 points, after winning 10 matches, losing 10 and drawing 10. And Onyango now seems to have turned them into an even stronger team. “People tell me that finishing in the top four is a realistic achievement for us. But that doesn’t agree with what I want. We are determined to win all our remaining games and then see where we finish at the end of the day,” he said. Onyango is an experienced coach having coached some top teams in Kenya including Sofapaka FC, Wazito United, and KCB FC. At some point, he was also an assistant coach in Gor Mahia. So far, Musanze has won four games and lost one in the first five league rounds. “We have been consistent enough so far and we built a strong team that will do better this season and for some time to come,” he added. Musanze FC will use a budget of more than Rwf180 million this season in their bid to grab the title. They vist Kiyovu in their next game, on October 29, at Kigali Stadium.
