US $2.5 Million grant for infrastructure devt

WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — The local district authorities have received US $2.5m from the UN-Habitat to rehabilitate a 4km feeder road network in the district. This was revealed by Mayor Fabian Sindayiheba, in an interview with The New Times on Tuesday. Among the roads to be rehabilitated include four feeder roads in Kamembe sector which connect to the main tarmac road. “Some feeder roads that connect to Kamembe main road have been a hindrance to business activities and an impediment to improved living standards in the area because of potholes. As such we are going to rehabilitate them in order to ease movement in the region,” Sindayiheba said, adding that the project is at feasibility study stage. He added that part of the funds will be used to upgrade some commercial centres which were built in a disorderly manner. The district also plans to construct five fish stalls at Budiki landing site in Gihundwe, in Kamembe market, and at Rusizi 11 border post. Other infrastructural projects under consideration include construction of public toilets and water storage tanks for the residents. Ends
