BOSTON - The President and Mrs Kagame will on Tuesday receive the UNICEF Children’s Champion Award in Boston. According to Kaia Miller, Chair of the New England Chapter of US Fund for UNICEF, President Kagame will be honoured for “leadership on behalf of the children of Rwanda, particularly for efforts to increase school enrollment and improve the quality of education in Rwanda. Mrs Kagame will also be honored for her work with children through the Imbuto Foundation and the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS.” The event is expected to focus the spotlight on the progress in development being made in Rwanda and assist the US Fund for UNICEF raise resources in support of programs for children in Rwanda. The Children’s Champion Award is presented to public figures who strive to make a difference for children throughout the world. Past recipients include Nelson Mandela, Queen Noor of Jordan and the late Audrey Hepburn. Later President Kagame will be the guest of honour at the book launch of “In the River They Swim: Essays from Around the World on Enterprise Solutions to Poverty” by Michael Fairbanks. President Kagame’s essay on entrepreneurship in Rwanda titled “The Backbone of a New Rwanda” features in the book which was released last month in the US and Canada and is being released today in the UK. At the book launch President Kagame is expected to receive the two best essays of the “Entrepreneurial President” essay competition from winners Andreata Muforo (Zimbabwean MBA student at Stanford University) and William Kalema (Ugandan student from North Western University) who will both be awarded scholarships from the SEVEN Fund.
