GAKENKE — Shock and grief engulfed residents of Kivuluga Sector in Gakenke District when a woman and her two daughters were killed by her step son last week. A 22-year old man identified as Celestin Nshimiyimana allegedly killed Jacqueline Ingabire and her children among them a 3 month old baby, over a row on the family possesions which include three goats and two sheep. Police arrested the accused soon after the grisly incidence. The accused upon being questioned by police admitted to carrying out the murder, saying he was helped by two other accomplices. Nshimiyimana, who is said to be a self confessed and renowned criminal in the area, disclosed that he had previously participated in three other murder cases. One of the accomplices Gashyuhe Kazungu, a local area radio technician was also arrested, while police are still searching for the third suspect only identified as Damascene. Narrating the gruesome incident, Nshimiyimana said that they first gang raped his stepmother before killing her and her children. He further explained that they later killed the 6- year old daughter because they suspected she would report them. Adding that they killed the baby because it continiously cried. “I was the first to reach home and asked for food, Kazungu later joined me and we got to accomplish our mission. After raping her we later strangled them using ropes,” Nshyimiyimana boldly narrated the murder. It was reported that at the time, the head of the family, a Genocide convict who has just completed his community service (TIG) sentence, had traveled to Gatsibo District to collect his completion certificate. The grisly incident comes in the wake of a similar one in Busengo Sector in which a woman was killed, and four suspects including her husband have since been arrested. Commenting on the murder, a Police officer said that there is need for residents to settle family conflicts in a more amicable manner. He called for extra vigilance to arrest suspects in the communities. Ends
